Apartment Renovation
Berlin Altbau Transformation
This classic Berlin Altbau two-room rental apartment was ready for a thoughtful intervention. The project centered on reimagining the spatial program through carefully designed built-in furniture and architectural elements that seamlessly blend functionality, structure, and aesthetic coherence.
Design Philosophy
The result is a minimalist interior that maximizes every square meter while maintaining the apartment's inherent character. Each custom element serves multiple purposes, creating abundant storage and clever hidden compartments that keep the space uncluttered and serene.
Key Elements
The Sleeping Box
A sculptural volume that conceals a guest bed, full wardrobe, and generous storage compartments—transforming a corner into a multifunctional hub that adapts to daily needs and overnight guests.
Living Room Shelf System
What appears as a clean, linear shelf reveals a hidden workspace within. The integrated desk slides out when remote work calls, then disappears completely to preserve the room's minimalist aesthetic.
Entrance Closet
The gateway to the home houses an organized collection: cleaning supplies, shoes, jackets, luggage, and tools—all tucked away behind streamlined doors that maintain the entry's welcoming atmosphere.
Arrival Sequence
A thoughtfully positioned mirror and integrated bench create a natural transition zone, providing everything needed for that moment of arrival and departure—a pause between the city and home.
Vintage Bike Display
The old electrical cabinet gave way to a sleek wall-mounted bike hanger that transforms a vintage racing bike into a sculptural element, celebrating both function and form.
The project demonstrates how strategic insertions can completely transform a rental space, creating a home that feels both expansive and intimate, organized yet effortless.
